Back Road Hero

We all have a back road hero. That one vehicle that tempts us away from the highway onto the back roads. As well as being a 'content creator', I'm a true petrol head, petrol nerd, occasional racing driver, and Airline Captain. After family, my life revolves around meeting like minded people and restoring, driving, buying and selling cars. Life's too short to drive something boring.

Without the assistance of the FCA group (formerly Fiat Chrysler), the 4th generation of Mazda MX5 might not have existed at all. The Japanese Yen had taken a pounding and to try and design an all new platform was going to be expensive. This was supposed to be the new Alfa Spider but internal politics scuppered those plans. Enter Fiat (and Abarth). They were looking to celebrate 50 years since the original Fiat 124 Spider was introduced in 1966 so penned their own car, in their own Italian way, and used one of their own engines to create what could possibly be argued as one of the best handling roadsters our there. They might have even beaten Mazda at their own game. The downside was the cost. Adding £5k to the asking price compared to the ND Mazda MX5 harmed sales with the MX5 outselling it 10:1. This makes it even rarer on the roads today. I've dared to be different all my life, and my choice of car is no different.
